Expert Drainage Solutions for Mammoth Lakes, CA Properties

Understanding Why Drainage Problems Demand Professional Solutions

Water management problems on Mammoth Lakes, CA properties are among the most consequential landscape issues a property owner can face, and also among the most commonly misdiagnosed. Standing water in yards, wet basement conditions, and erosion on sloped areas often appear to be independent problems but typically share a common root cause: water that is entering the site faster than the soil and landscape system can absorb or redirect it. Treating visible symptoms without addressing the underlying water movement pattern produces temporary improvements that fail with the next significant rain event. Kelly Landscaping's drainage assessment process identifies the complete water pathway across each property before any solution is designed.

French drain installation is the most versatile drainage solution available for Mammoth Lakes, CA properties and the one we install most frequently. A properly designed French drain consists of a gravel-filled trench containing a perforated pipe that intercepts groundwater and surface runoff at the point of collection and conveys it away from the problem area to a designated discharge point. The specific dimensions, slope, pipe diameter, and gravel aggregate used in any French drain must be sized to handle the volume of water generated by the contributing drainage area during design storm events. Under-sized French drains that cannot handle peak flow rates fail to solve the problem they were installed to address. Kelly Landscaping designs every drain system to handle the actual water volumes present at the site.

Beyond French drains, our drainage solution toolkit in Mammoth Lakes, CA includes catch basin and grate inlet systems for collecting surface water in low spots, channel drains for intercepting sheet flow across hard surfaces, dry creek beds that serve both drainage and aesthetic purposes in natural style landscapes, grade correction work that redirects surface flow away from buildings and toward intended drainage paths, and downspout extension systems that direct roof runoff to appropriate discharge locations away from foundation walls. In many cases, the most effective drainage solution combines several of these approaches in a coordinated system designed to manage water at every stage of its movement across the property.
